Green Powered Heating
Cornwall moves to modern green heating
If you’re a homeowner in Cornwall thinking about upgrading to an air source heat pump, you’re in luck. Not only do heat pumps offer an energy-efficient and eco-friendly way to heat your home, but there are also substantial government grants and incentives available that can significantly reduce the cost of installation. Let’s break down exactly what you can get to help make your transition to a greener home as affordable as possible.
If you live in England or Wales, your installer can apply for a £7,500 grant through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme to cut the cost of installing your air source heat pump (one grant per property). The scheme covers heat pump installations that take place before the end of March 2028. This makes installing a heat pump not only more affordable but also a smart investment in the long-term efficiency and value of your house. Please note that you cannot get a grant for a hybrid heat pump system (for example a combination of gas boiler and air source heat pump).
The system you install must meet certain standards, such as minimum efficiency levels (your installer can advise you on these). You can check if you are eligible here: Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme: Check if you’re eligible – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The financial incentives available make it an ideal time to switch to an air source heat pump in Cornwall.
To meet these fantastic government incentives, you will require the following:
- You own the property where the heat pump will be installed, whether it’s your home, a holiday let, or even a small commercial space.
- You choose an installer like NSN. We’re accredited by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), ensuring quality and compliance.
- You’re upgrading from an old fossil fuel or electric heating system to a more sustainable option, like an air source heat pump.
- You’re not replacing an existing heat pump or another renewable system—you’re making the switch to renewable energy for the first time.
- Your property has a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and there are no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
NSN have continued to research the market when building another offering.
