No VAT On Solar Panels
Spring last year it was announced that homeowner’s will now benefit from 0% VAT on energy efficient systems this includes solar panels, heat pumps and insulation.
With energy prices rising this initiative has been introduced in the hope of helping improve household energy efficiency whilst keeping energy costs down.
Solar panels are the ideal way to help lower household energy prices, all whilst generating carbon-free electricity. And now with the new tax relief, solar panels have never been viable for homeowners.
During last year’s announcement, Rishi Sunak said: “A family having a solar panel installed will see tax savings worth over £1,000 and savings on their energy bill of over £300 per year.”
Whist Solar panels are on the list for “energy-saving materials”, surprisingly battery storage systems are not.
VAT on solar batteries still remains at 20%, batteries have the ability to connect to solar panels and help support the shift towards energy independency. They also help increase the amount of renewable energy you can actually use within your home and your solar savings.
Here at NSN Electrical Ltd we highly recommend installing a battery storage system alongside your solar panel installation, in order to make the most of your investment and be more energy independent. However, we are aware that not everyone can afford the extra investment.
With VAT on Solar Panels set to be at 0% from April 2022 until 2027, there is no better time to invest in home improvements to combat those forever rising energy bills and take back control of your bills.

Frequently asked questions
Can old wiring use more electricity?
No! Old appliances and fittings can though. As older units are less efficient and wear down over time. Modern equipment uses new technology to be more efficient and cost less to run.
Can electrician sign off their own work?
Only if they are affiliated with an electrical representing body. Here at NSN Electrical we have a 20years affiliation with NAPIT – One of the top electrical governing bodies.
Can I change my light switch to a dimmer switch?
This depends on your current lighting, if it is dimmable or not.
We may have to also assess if the box behind the switch is deep enough to take a dimmer switch, as a dimmer switch recesses further into the wall than a standard switch.
We have solutions for all the above and we would be more than happy to find a solution for you.
